The Yellowhead Chiefs endured a tough stretch this past week, playing three out of their scheduled four games. A winter storm forced the postponement of their matchup against the Winnipeg Bruins, but the Chiefs still faced formidable competition, ending the week with three losses.
On Wednesday, January 15, the Chiefs battled the Brandon Wheat Kings at J&G Homes Arena, falling 5-3. Despite a valiant effort, including a power-play goal from Nolan Kozak and a three-point performance from Alec Strachan, the Wheat Kings’ early lead proved insurmountable. Goalie Conner Rapley was tested heavily, facing 43 shots and making 38 saves.
Saturday’s game against the Eastman Selects was a high-scoring affair, with the Chiefs narrowly losing 7-6. Yellowhead showed offensive firepower, with Grady McNish leading the charge, supported by goals from Brody Bohemier , Cooper McColl, Alec Strachan and Winston Lepp. Despite the offensive surge, Eastman’s late-game push, capped by a power-play goal with just seconds remaining, sealed the Chiefs’ fate.
The week concluded with a tough outing against the Winnipeg Wild on Sunday, where the Chiefs fell 9-1. Destin Knight scored Yellowhead’s lone goal, as the Wild dominated the third period, scoring six unanswered goals to secure the win.
Looking ahead, the Chiefs hit the road next week with games against the Pembina Valley Hawks in Morden on January 23, and the Winnipeg Bruins on January 24.
