The Yellowhead Chiefs faced a challenging final week of 2024, dropping two games before entering a well-earned holiday break. On Friday, December 20, the Chiefs hosted the Southwest Cougars at the Shoal Lake Communiplex. Despite strong goaltending from Conner Rapley, who stopped 37 of 41 shots, the Chiefs were shut out 4-0. Southwest’s relentless attack and the Chiefs’ struggles on the power play (0-for-5) defined the matchup.
The following night, Yellowhead traveled to Seven Oaks to face the Winnipeg Thrashers. The Chiefs came out strong, building a 2-0 lead in the first period with goals from Tyson Bridge and Isaac McArthur. However, the Thrashers surged back with three goals in the third period, including a power-play tally, to edge the Chiefs 4-3. Konner Klemick’s goal midway through the third brought Yellowhead within one, but the comeback fell short despite a 40-save effort from Rapley.
The Chiefs now enter a two-week break, a valuable opportunity to regroup and recharge. They’ll return to action January 4 and 5, 2025, hosting the Thrashers for a doubleheader rematch in Shoal Lake. Chiefs Nation will be ready to cheer them on as they start the new year strong!
