The Long Road Continues

The Yellowhead Chiefs endured a tough week with three games, all ending in narrow losses. While the team has shown flashes of brilliance, consistency remains elusive. Fans will hope for a rebound as the Chiefs host the Southwest Cougars on Friday, December 20, before traveling to Winnipeg to face the Thrashers on Saturday.

The week started with a spirited but ultimately disappointing 6-4 loss to the Parkland Rangers on Tuesday. A scoreless first two periods saw the Chiefs fall behind 4-0 before rallying with a four-goal third period. Grady McNish led the charge with two goals, and Alec Strachan added another late, but it wasn’t enough to erase the deficit.

Over the weekend, the Chiefs traveled north to face the Norman Northstars in back-to-back games. Saturday’s clash was a thriller, with the Chiefs losing 6-5 in a seesaw battle. McNish, Strachan, and Nolan Kozak shone offensively, but Norman’s Wamboldt proved unstoppable, contributing to the Northstars’ success.

Sunday’s rematch saw the Chiefs fall 7-3. Despite strong efforts from Strachan and Kozak, Norman’s relentless attack wore down the Chiefs’ defense. Goaltender Cole Lelond faced a combined 51 shots in a game marked by penalty trouble for Yellowhead.

The Chiefs’ power play provided some bright spots, converting five times across the three games. However, maintaining discipline and limiting penalties will be key as they aim to improve.

With just two games on the schedule this week, the Chiefs have an opportunity to reset and refocus. Fans are encouraged to pack the Shoal Lake Communiplex Friday to support the team in their push for a much-needed victory.
