Chiefs Battle On

The Yellowhead Chiefs battled through a tough three-game stretch this past week, earning a point but coming up short in all three contests. With another busy week ahead, the Chiefs will look to regroup as they host the Parkland Rangers on February 4 and then welcome the Eastman Selects for a weekend doubleheader on February 8 and 9.

The week started with a thrilling comeback effort against the Parkland Rangers on January 30. After falling behind 5-1 early in the third period, the Chiefs stormed back with four unanswered goals to force overtime. Riley Swereda, Alec Strachan, and Winston Lepp led the charge, but Parkland struck just 16 seconds into the extra frame to steal the win, 6-5.

On February 1, the Chiefs returned home to face the Winnipeg Bruins but ran into a hot opponent. Despite goals from Grady McNish and Alec Strachan, the Bruins’ offense proved too much to handle in a 7-3 defeat. Connor Rapley faced a barrage of 53 shots in net, making 46 saves.

The weekend wrapped up with a tough matchup against the Winnipeg Wild on February 2. The Chiefs struggled to contain the high-powered Wild attack, surrendering five third-period goals in a 9-2 loss. Cole Lelond faced an incredible 70 shots, turning aside 61. Colby Asselstine and Riley Swereda provided the offense for Yellowhead.

With three home games this week, the Chiefs have a great chance to bounce back and pick up valuable points down the stretch. Puck drop against Parkland is set for 8:00 PM on Tuesday in Shoal Lake.
