Fun and Games

It was a tough week for the Yellowhead Chiefs as they dropped three straight games, including a close battle with Parkland and back-to-back losses to the Eastman Selects. Despite the results, the Chiefs showed resilience and provided fans with an exciting weekend both on and off the ice.

The week started with a narrow 4-3 loss to the Parkland Rangers on Tuesday. Alec Strachan and Riley Swereda got the Chiefs off to a strong start with first-period goals, but a late surge by Parkland proved too much to overcome. Goalie Conner Rapley was outstanding, making 46 saves on 50 shots.

On Saturday, the Chiefs fell 4-2 to Eastman despite a strong third period where Colby Asselstine and Strachan found the back of the net. The team battled hard but couldn’t complete the comeback. Sunday’s rematch saw Eastman take control in a 6-1 victory, with Redden Richmond scoring the lone goal for Yellowhead. Goalie Cole Lelond stood tall despite facing a barrage of 58 shots.

Sunday’s game featured some special moments for young hockey fans, as the U9 Shoal Lake Eagles played a mini-game with some Chiefs players, followed by a “Meet the Chiefs” event where local minor hockey players got autographs and interacted with the team.

Looking ahead, the Chiefs have two games this week. They host the Winnipeg Bruins on Tuesday, February 13, in a rescheduled matchup before heading to Teulon on Thursday to take on the Interlake Lightning. Let’s get out and support the team!
