It was a full and eventful week for the Yellowhead Chiefs, both on and off the ice, as the team balanced a demanding three-game schedule with the spirit of the Christmas season. On Saturday, players and fans came together to donate much-needed items to the Hamiota Food Bank, highlighting the strong connection between the Chiefs and their community. The weekend wrapped up with the team’s Christmas party on Sunday evening, offering a chance to regroup and reflect after a busy stretch.
On the ice, the Chiefs faced added challenges, most notably on December 10 when they dressed five AP players, including two goaltenders, with both regular netminders sidelined by injury. Despite the adversity, Yellowhead showed resilience and depth, earning two points in three games as they head toward the final road trip before the Christmas break.
December 10 – Chiefs Fall in High-Scoring Battle at Central Plains

In Portage la Prairie, the Chiefs were thrown straight into adversity, icing a heavily patched lineup that included multiple AP call-ups and an emergency goaltending situation. Despite that, Yellowhead pushed the Capitals to the limit in a wild, back-and-forth contest.
Central Plains jumped out early, capitalizing on special teams and early momentum, but the Chiefs refused to fade. Oliver Nickel opened the scoring for Yellowhead in the first, and the game never slowed from there.
The third period turned into a shootout. Alec Strachan led the charge with a natural hat trick in the final frame, scoring three times in the last 15 minutes to pull the Chiefs back within one. Nolan Kozak added a key marker, and the Chiefs poured on late pressure, scoring twice in the final minute, but ultimately ran out of time in a 7–6 loss.
Despite the result, the performance highlighted the team’s depth and resolve, especially under difficult circumstances and with APs logging meaningful minutes.
December 13 – Chiefs Roll Past Norman at Home

Back home in Shoal Lake, the Chiefs delivered one of their most complete efforts of the season. After surrendering the opening goal, Yellowhead responded quickly and never looked back.
Nolan Kozak continued his strong stretch, scoring twice, while Grady McNish chipped in a goal and two assists. The Chiefs spread the scoring throughout the lineup, with contributions from Ethan Turchinski, Isaac McArthur, and others.
Special teams were sharp, the pace was controlled, and the Chiefs outshot Norman 45–36. In goal, Landon McGregor was steady, turning aside 34 shots to earn the win.
It was a confidence-building performance that showcased the team’s speed, depth, and offensive balance.
December 14 – Chiefs Come Up Short Against League-Leading Winnipeg Wild

The weekend wrapped up with a hard-fought contest against the top-ranked Winnipeg Wild. The Chiefs stayed competitive throughout, trading chances and keeping the game tight into the final minutes.
Nolan Kozak scored the lone Chiefs goal late in the first period, tying the game at one before the Wild regained the lead shortly after. A scoreless second period followed, with both goaltenders locked in.
Yellowhead pushed in the third but couldn’t find the equalizer, and an empty-net goal sealed the 3–1 final. McGregor again gave the Chiefs a chance, stopping 36 of 38 shots.
Looking Ahead – One Final Road Trip Before the Break
The Chiefs sit ninth in the U18 AAA standings as they prepare for one final push before the holiday break. It won’t be easy.
