The Yellowhead Chiefs wrapped up their 2024-25 season with a four-game stretch this past week, closing things out with a special ceremony on Sunday to honor five graduating players: Chase Cochrane, Riley Swereda, Conner Rapley, Konner Klemick, and Colby Asselstine.
The week began with a tough 9-4 loss to the Southwest Cougars on Tuesday. The Chiefs fought hard but couldn’t contain the Cougars’ offense, which struck early and often. Yellowhead saw goals from Klemick, Cochrane, Kozak, and Asselstine, but Southwest’s depth proved too much to handle.
On Friday, the Chiefs rebounded with an impressive 4-1 victory over the Central Plains Capitals. Grady McNish got the scoring started with a power-play goal, followed by Swereda adding another in the second. Kozak and Lepp sealed the win in the third, and Conner Rapley stood tall in net, turning aside 27 of 28 shots for the victory.
Saturday’s matchup against the Interlake Lightning was a challenging one, as the Chiefs struggled to generate offense in a 5-1 loss. Cochrane notched the lone goal for Yellowhead, but Interlake capitalized on their opportunities, pulling away in the third period.
The season finale on Sunday saw an emotional pre-game ceremony as the Chiefs recognized their graduating players. Yellowhead came out strong, grabbing an early lead with goals from Asselstine and Lepp. However, Interlake stormed back with a five-goal third period, handing the Chiefs a 7-3 defeat to close out the campaign. Swereda scored his final goal in a Chiefs uniform in the loss.
Despite a challenging season, the Chiefs showed resilience and growth. The organization thanks the players, staff, and fans for their support and wishes the graduating players the best in their future endeavors.
