The Yellowhead Chiefs hit the road this past weekend for a pair of games against the league-leading Winnipeg Thrashers, coming up short in both contests. The weekend also marked a special milestone for veteran forward Oliver Nickel, who suited up for his 100th U18 AAA game on Saturday night.

The Chiefs came out strong Friday, jumping to a 2–0 first-period lead on a pair of goals from Captain Alec Strachan, who continues to lead the team offensively. Strachan’s tallies, assisted by Grady McNish, Tyson Bridge, Nolan Kozak, and Burke Dunits, gave Yellowhead early control.
After Winnipeg closed the gap in the second, Nickel restored the two-goal cushion with his third of the season, assisted by Carter White, but the Thrashers responded quickly to make it 3–2 heading into the third. The hosts found another gear in the final frame, scoring twice to edge the Chiefs 4–3.
Goaltender Sawyer Wallin turned aside 36 of 40 shots in a strong effort as the Chiefs matched the Thrashers chance-for-chance in an evenly played game.

Saturday’s rematch proved to be a test of discipline and endurance. The game saw a total of 20 penalties, with the Thrashers capitalizing on five power plays. Strachan provided Yellowhead’s lone goal, his 10th of the season, assisted once again by McNish and Bridge.
Wallin was kept busy for the second straight night, facing 45 shots in the contest. Despite the scoreline, the Chiefs showed moments of strong defensive play and resilience against the league’s top club.
