That Could Have Gone Better

The Yellowhead Chiefs’ challenging season continued with two tough losses this past week, extending their winless streak to 13 games, matching an unenviable record from last season. Despite moments of effort, the team struggled to contain high-powered offenses from their opponents, underscoring the need for defensive improvement and consistency as they enter a pivotal stretch of games.

On December 3, the Chiefs hosted the Brandon Wheat Kings, falling 9-4 in a high-scoring contest. Yellowhead showed promise early with a shorthanded goal by Klemick and solid contributions from Knight, Kozak and Lepp, but a six-goal second period from Brandon proved too much to overcome. Rapley and Lelond split duties in goal, facing a combined 45 shots.

The struggle continued on December 7 as the Winnipeg Wild dominated 10-0, handing the Chiefs their most lopsided defeat of the season. Despite a valiant effort from goaltender Lelond, who made 45 saves on 55 shots, the Chiefs’ offense could not break through the Wild’s defense. Disciplined play will be key moving forward, as penalty troubles further hampered the team’s ability to gain momentum.

Looking ahead, the Chiefs aim to turn things around with three games this week. They host the Parkland Rangers on Tuesday, December 10, before traveling north to face the Norman Northstars in a weekend doubleheader in Thompson. These games present an opportunity for the team to reset, rally, and end their challenging streak on a positive note. Fans are encouraged to show their support as the Chiefs battle on.
