The Yellowhead Chiefs are set for an exciting season in the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League, and anticipation is building. Preseason challenges tested the team, but they’ve shown flashes of brilliance and grit that hint at a strong year ahead.
The preseason began on September 13, 2024, with a 6-1 loss to the Southwest Cougars. Prospect Cooper McColl scored the Chiefs’ lone goal. The next day, in an 8-2 defeat against the Estevan Bears, returning player Nolan Kozak and Redden Richmond, brother of last year Chiefs alum Rowan, found the back of the net. The Chiefs closed the preseason on September 15 with a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to the Pembina Valley Hawks, with veteran Isaac McArthur and prospect Duncan McLean scoring. The Hawks secured the win with just 1.5 seconds remaining.

These games, held in Souris, Manitoba, served as key preparation. From 27 players still on the roster, the team will soon announce the final 20 making up the team. Next, the Chiefs will face the Brandon Wheat Kings on September 21 in their final exhibition game. The season officially begins on September 29 at home in the Shoal Lake Communiplex, with a rematch against the Wheat Kings.
This year, the Chiefs are led by new Head Coach Hannah Street, a longtime Yellowhead figure coming off a successful season with the U17 team. She’s joined by new Assistant Coach Darby Cochrane, returning Assistant Coach Aiden Woodley, and trainer Dylan Hunter.
With a strong coaching staff and a promising potential roster, the Chiefs are ready to bring excitement and intensity to every game. The 2024-25 season is shaping up to be a memorable one for the Yellowhead Chiefs!
