Oliver Nickel gave Yellowhead an early boost with a goal just under two minutes in, assisted by Grady McNish and Ethan Bray. Though they led 1-0 after the first, the second period saw Southwest surge with five quick goals. Riley Swereda netted two goals, including one on the power play, but the Cougars’ offense proved too much. The Chiefs were outshot 41-28, with Cole Lelond making 34 saves.

Missing key players Alec Strachan and Colby Asselstine due to injury, the Chiefs called up Ian Foster and Cohen Kulbacki as affiliated players. Despite the loss, they showed improved discipline giving just one power player opportunity and Swereda’s power-play goal was a bright spot.

Now 0-2-0, the Chiefs look ahead to a home game against the Pembina Valley Hawks on Friday, October 11. With extra practice time this week, they are poised to improve and compete hard. The 7:30 p.m. matchup is a prime chance for Yellowhead to break into the win column, with fans eager to see them thrive on home ice.
