Chiefs Fall to League-Leading Bruins in Weekend Set
The Yellowhead Chiefs wrapped up a tough weekend at home against the Winnipeg Bruins, the U18 AAA league’s top team, dropping both games as the season enters its final stretch. With just six games remaining, the Chiefs now turn their attention to a crucial road matchup in Dauphin and a home date against Kenora.

**Saturday, January 31
Winnipeg Bruins 9, Yellowhead Chiefs 3**
The Chiefs got off to a promising start on Saturday night, opening the scoring early with a power-play goal from Wyatt Njegovan, set up by Grady McNish, to give Yellowhead a 1–0 lead. However, the Bruins quickly responded and took control of the game with two late first-period goals to lead 2–1 after 20 minutes.
Winnipeg extended its lead in the second period, capitalizing on sustained pressure and special teams. Nolan Kozak briefly pulled the Chiefs within striking distance with a strong individual effort, finishing a play from Winston Lepp, but the Bruins answered almost immediately and piled on three more goals before the period ended.
Despite heavy traffic all night, goaltender Wallin battled through a barrage of shots, facing 56 in total. Winston Lepp added a late third-period goal for Yellowhead, assisted by Kozak, but the Bruins’ depth and pace proved too much as they skated away with the 9–3 win.

**Sunday, February 1
Winnipeg Bruins 8, Yellowhead Chiefs 1**
Sunday’s rematch followed a similar script, with the Bruins striking twice late in the first period to seize momentum. Winnipeg dominated the middle frame, scoring five times to put the game out of reach.
The Chiefs continued to compete despite the lopsided score, and were rewarded midway through the third period when Carter White converted on the power play, finishing a setup from Redden Richmond and Espenell to get Yellowhead on the board.
Goaltender McGregor faced a daunting workload, stopping 60 shots as the Bruins fired 68 on goal. While the scoreboard didn’t reflect it, the Chiefs showed resilience against one of the most complete teams in the league.
Season Winds Down: Six Games to Go
With a 16-25-1 record, the Chiefs sit ninth in the standings as the regular season winds down. The focus now shifts to finishing strong and building momentum against teams around them in the standings.
The Chiefs are back in action Thursday, February 6, on the road against the Parkland Rangers in Dauphin, before returning home Saturday, February 8, to host the Kenora Thistles at the Shoal Lake Communiplex.
As the final six games unfold, the emphasis remains on effort, development, and competing hard every night as the Chiefs close out the 2025-26 campaign.
